For Michael Herman, venturing down
the untrodden path of Solo-dom was a completely new and never before thought
of voyage. A quiet, shy guy - more like the Jack to Jorma than the Penn
to Teller, Mike had for over 15 years played the music, supported the vocals,
and paid the dues. He became the man who had chosen to make a lifelong commitment
to music.

finger-picking, Mike Herman happily played his guitar just outside the spotlight.
With the demise of the Hell Hounds, Mike resurface as a member of the bluegrass
band, Aurora North and reconnected with his passion for ragtime's rhythm and the country-folk art of storytelling.
That rich tapestry of American roots music wraps Mike Herman's debut CD,
"Solo" in warm familiarity. It is no surprise to hear intricate
but nuanced guitar lines and gently flowing melodies. What is a surprise
- at least to this listener - are Mike's vocals.
Rarely heard previously, his singing is a relaxed and comfortable extension
of his approach to performance. There are no moments on this CD that scream
"look at me - I'm singing!" Instead, the album winds like a river
through nine originals and three covers, with Mike's vocals carrying us
leisurely along with calm assurance.
Quite apart from his singing, Mike Herman has also found his voice as a
writer. His appreciation of life, love and relationships make his keen ear
fro home-wrecking conflicts and arguments all the more compelling. Musicianship
aside, it's the lyrics that will have you reaching for your headphones.
